The Board would like to thank Judge Mc Mahon for all he has done since his appointment and wishes him every success on his return to the Courts. The Board is now looking forward to working with Mr. Justice Smyth. The Minister\u2019s statement is printed in full below: <BR><BR>Minister Hanafin appoints Mr. Justice Esmond Smyth as Chairperson of the Residential Institutions Redress Board <BR><BR>The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, T.D., today (<EM>3 January, 2008<\/EM>) announced the appointment of Mr. Justice Esmond Smyth as Chairperson of the Residential Institutions Redress Board. Judge Smyth will replace Judge Bryan Mc Mahon who has been recalled to the High Court. <BR><BR>Announcing the appointment today, Minister Hanafin said &#8220;<STRONG>I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Justice Esmond Smyth as Chairperson of the Residential Institutions Redress Board. The Board forms an integral part of the range of measures put in place by the Government to assist in alleviating the effects of child abuse suffered by those who were formerly resident in Industrial Schools and other residential institutions. <BR><BR>In announcing the appointment, I would also like to acknowledge the valuable contribution made by his predecessor, Judge Bryan Mc Mahon.
